Intelligent Eye; the underwater robotics team of Zhejiang University, consist of students from different department in the Engineering section that share a similar dream of dedication to develop extraordinary underwater vehicles to aid in the development of underwater research and exploration. The team consist of three members Kamran Ahmed, Rudolph Persaud and RohailSarwar, mentored by Assistant Professor Song Hong from the department of Ocean Optics and Automation, Ocean College, Zhejiang University who has worked together to develop Ocean Strider.

The development of Ocean Strider, a hybrid underwater robot was solely for the purpose of competing in the 2017 China Ocean International (Ol) underwater robotics competition which kicked off on September 16, 2017 in Tianjin at the National Ocean Technology Center. This year’s competition attracted participants from different universities across China with an aim to design and develop underwater vehicles to execute missions formed after real-life situations in the marine environment.

Zhejiang University team was successful at this year competition; the ROV was able to accomplish numerous tasks underwater manually and in autonomously mode, as a result, the team secured 3rd place in the 2017 OI China underwater robotics competition. The Vehicle is both manually and autonomously operated, and is able to move freely and provides stability motion in both vertical and horizontal direction and can resist pressure at 100-150 m in regular sea condition and is capable of detecting and recognizing objects for safe navigation.
