An Academic Feast:the 2017 APEC Marine Training Workshop

      On 20th, October, the 2017 APEC Training Workshop on Marine Spatial Planning and Marine Protected Areas Management is organized by APEC Marine Sustainable Development Center and Co-organized by Ocean College of Zhejiang University, with the support of State Oceanic Administration (SOA), China scheduled from Oct 20-23, 2017, in Zhoushan City, China.

The workshop is based on the previous consecutive capacity building activities on marine sustainable management (MPA Management in 2011 and MSP in 2012, 2013 and 2015), aims to share the best practices and information, knowledge and skills on MSP in APEC region; to enhance the capacity building for development and implementation of marine and coastal ecosystem-based management for the APEC region; to make efforts to contribute to achieve the SDG Goal 14.

Feng Jun, the deputy director of Department of International Cooperation, State Oceanic Administration, Chen Ying, the party secretary of Ocean College, Zhejiang University, and Chen Bin, the deputy director of Third Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration take part in the opening ceremony and make speeches.

       Besides, there are also more than 50 officers and scholars who are from 9 APEC economies (Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Korea, Peru, China, Chile, and Vietnam) and 11 non APEC economies (Egypt,Mozambique, Mauritus, Eritrea, Parkistan, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Negiria, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Yemen) participate in the seminar, including 13 international students of Ocean College who are from 13 countries. The seminar has lasted for 4 days. All participants have shared experience and discussed about the themes of marine space planning and marine protected areas management.
